How do you calculate the carbon footprint for corporate groups, corporations or multiple sites?

The calculation of the carbon footprint for corporate groups hardly differs in methodology from a classic corporate balance sheet. However, it becomes more difficult to maintain an overview with complex group structures and multiple locations. Our carbon footprint software for multiple locations offers:

    • Avoidance of double counting.
    • Clear structuring of all locations.
    • Simple and meaningful comparisons of the individual locations / companies.
    • Compliance with international standards such as the GHG Protocol.

With the Enit carbon software, you can easily start your carbon footprint report for multiple locations.

Is the carbon footprint mandatory for companies?

With the CSRD (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive), the EU has introduced new requirements for mandatory CO2 accounting in companies. Precise reports are particularly important for groups and multi-location companies in order to comply with legal requirements:

    • Meet legal requirements.
    • Create transparency and reduce costs.
    • Strategically reduce the corporate carbon footprint.

Important: What is mandatory for your company?

Before we dive deep into the explanation of the EU directives, here is an important note:
More and more companies are now required to comply with the CSRD requirements. The ESRS E1 standard, the first of five climate-specific standards under the title "Climate Change", contains nine disclosure requirements (E1-1 to E1-9), which must be reported independently of a special materiality test.

In other words, unlike other parts of the ESG, this standard is mandatory for (almost) all companies!

The ESRS E1-1 to E1-9 ultimately contain the three major steps towards climate neutrality: starting with accounting, through the establishment of measurable targets, to the development and implementation of an action plan.

For the sake of clarity, we do not list the individual disclosure requirements here, but you can find them in this PDF for free download.

    Regulatory requirements for companies

The EU and Germany are extending the obligations for companies in the area ofcarbon accounting. If you would like to get an overview of CBAM, CSRD, ESPR and DPP, we have also created a short guide for you here.
